The Iron Lady seeks to become a comprehensive examination of the life and political career of Margaret Thatcher, the ninth Prime Minister under Queen Elizabeth II and the United Kingdom's longest serving Prime Minister of the modern era. In the wake of recent successful Stephen Frears/Peter Morgan biopictures of British political figures such as Queen Elizabeth II (The Queen), Tony Blair (The Special Relationship) and Gordon Brown (The Deal) or even American ones such as Frost/Nixon (2008), The Iron Lady has a lot of live up to especially considering the film's subject was one the most controversial and in many circles the most hated political figure in Great Britain of the past forty years. Nevertheless, any and every biopicture should move beyond the criticisms or short-comings of the figure though these aspects should never be ignored or absent. However, any compelling biopicture must make a detailed case for why this person is any important, significant or special.Canadahttp://rantofimitation.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-833922430271302615.post-36823345193024968812012-05-10T23:14:06.628-04:002012-05-10T23:14:06.628-04:00The core of the Avengers for the longest time was ...The core of the Avengers for the longest time was Captain America (the leader; the heart of the team), Iron Man (the technologist and financier; the brains of the team), and Thor (the raw power; the muscle of the team). All other roster invites or additions (including the Hulk, who only played prominent in the original comics for a very short time) added something additional to the onion (including flavor) but the main three were indispensable. So as Marvel's "The Avengers" bows to kick off a franchise, how does it do and does it live up to its characters? We'll see.Ceskahttp://findingselfbelief.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-833922430271302615.post-76714275888571816962012-04-19T21:32:22.935-04:002012-04-19T21:32:22.935-04:00There are romantic beats in THE VOW that, for all ...There are romantic beats in THE VOW that, for all their predictability and heavyhandedness, are still worth waiting for. And that's because McAdams and Tatum do create some sparks in their scenes together. Despite her newfound attraction to Jeremy, Paige gradually, cautiously becomes open to Leo's advances. She remarks: "I married him. It must've been for some reason." This then leads to probably my favorite sequence, which is their "first date." Since I'm a manly man, I won't swoon or have vapors. But I liked that sequence.Canadahttp://somuch2thank4.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-833922430271302615.post-43675860613728798102011-02-20T10:24:56.674-05:002011-02-20T10:24:56.674-05:00The day I saw "The Hurt Locker" I told m...The day I saw "The Hurt Locker" I told my friend, "That is an academy award-winning film." The day I saw "Fair Game" I said "Those were two academy award-winning performances." Both Sean Penn and Naomi Watts were extraordinary, and it seems bleak indeed that they were overlooked by the Academy, and the audience, presumed to be split down the middle, with a good portion unwilling to see the truth, probably still convinced of "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq. Terrible shame this movie isn't being seen, along with "Inside Job" and "Casino Jack," for a bitter swallow of reality.Gnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-833922430271302615.post-10915324735099682132011-01-20T16:56:33.665-05:002011-01-20T16:56:33.665-05:00I am excited to watch this film.
