2012 Oscar Predictions

I have a feeling the 2012 Academy Awards will be one of the least-watched broadcasts in history. Despite a banner year for quality films, few of them attracted huge audiences.

Movie-goers simply don't care if "The Artist" sweeps most of the major categories because few people have seen the film. And don't be surprised if "Hugo" comes away with just one or two wins despite garnering 11 nominations. Few people saw Martin Scorsese's masterpiece.

And it's hard to take the Oscars seriously this year when Jonah Hill is one of the nominees.

On the bright side, there will be no live performances of the two nominees for "Original Song" in what had to have been the absolute worst year ever for songs in films.

So for those who do care about such things, here's my predictions for tonight's Oscar broadcast.

BEST PICTURE -- Who should win: "The Artist" - Who will win: "The Artist"

BEST ACTOR -- Who should win: Gary Oldman - Who will win: George Clooney

BEST ACTRESS -- Who should win: Meryl Streep - Who will win: Viola Davis

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR -- Who should win: Christopher Plummer - Who will win: Christopher Plummer

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS -- Who should win: Melissa McCarthy - Who will win: Octavia Spencer

BEST DIRECTOR -- Who should win: Martin Scorsese - Who will win: Michael Hazanavicius

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY -- Who should win: Michael Hazanavicius for "The Artists" - Who will win: Woody Allen for "Midnight in Paris"

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY -- Who should win: "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" - Who will win: "The Descendants"

ANIMATED FEATURE - Who should win: "Rango" - Who will win: "Rango"

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM - Who should win: "A Separation" - Who will win: "A Separation"

And if you care about such categories as "Sound Mixing" and "Documentary Short Film," you know why the Oscars take 3.5 hours to finish.

The entire ceremony could be done in one-hour (and that's including the red carpet.)
