After an $86.1 million opening weekend, "Thor: The Dark World" looks like another unstoppable Disney/Marvel smash.

And you can also tack on $240 million overseas box office total.

'Oz' the first box-office blockbuster of 2013

Despite poor reviews, "Oz The Great and Powerful" continues to dominate the domestic box office. The film has taken in $145 million in its first two weeks of releaswe in the U.S. It's also a huge hit overseas.

Starring James Franco, the prequel to "The Wizard of Oz" still has a ways to go to earn back its $215 million productions costs, but it's headed in the right direction. The film was director by Sam Raimi (of the original "Spiderman" series fame).

'Identity Thief' Tops Weekend Box Office

You know it wasn't a banner weekend for Hollywood when the biggest film opening stars Jason Bateman.

The Jason Bateman/Melissa McCarthy comedy "Identify Thief" - essentially a TV movie of the week - was No. 1 at the weekend box office, earning slightly more than $36 million.

The weekend box office was weak all around. It didn't help matters that most of the Northeastern United States was digging out of a huge snowstorm, but there's few films in wide release worth seeing this time of year.

'The Avengers' sets box-office records

The official box-office numbers are in and "The Avengers" did better than studio estimates. The film took in $207.4 million in its opening weekend.

Ray Subers recaps the record-breaking opening of "The Avengers" at BoxOfficeMojo.com:
It was the fastest movie ever to reach $100 million, $150 million, and $200 million, and it set new records for Saturday ($69.7 million) and Sunday ($50.1 million) grosses. It also had the highest per-theater average ever for a nationwide release with $46,057.

Through its first three days, The Avengers has already grossed more than Thor ($181 million), Captain America: The First Avenger ($176.6 million) and The Incredible Hulk ($134.8 million). It's still behind Iron Man and Iron Man 2 ($318.4 million and $312.4 million, respectively), though it should pass those movies next weekend.

'The Hunger Games' Feasts on Weekend Box Office

BoxOfficeMojo.com estimates "The Hunger Games" has earned $155 million this weekend, easily taking the No. 1 spot at the box office. Since its March 23 opening with record-breaking midnight showings, "Hunger Games" has earned an astounding $215 million.

The film should easily top $300 million to become one of the biggest box-office hits of all time. Can you say next big franchi$e?

From Ray Subers analysis:
The odds were definitely in The Hunger Games favor this weekend: the big screen adaptation of the immensely popular young adult novel opened to an enormous estimated $155 million, which ranks third all-time behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million) and The Dark Knight ($158.4 million). Remarkably, it debuted above all of the Twilight movies, and it also topped Alice in Wonderland ($116.1 million) for highest debut ever for a non-sequel.
Among all the impressive Hunger Games statistics, two lesser-discussed ones are worth highlighting. First, the movie had an incredible hold on Saturday—it only fell 25 percent to $51 million, which ranks second all-time behind Spider-Man 3 ($51.3 million). This suggests that demand for The Hunger Games exists across a wide array of moviegoers, and isn't just rooted in the type of rabid fans that drove the front-loaded openings for recent Harry Potter and Twilight movies.
