The Godfather, fifty years later

The Godfather, fifty years later: This March 24 marked fifty years since the release of Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather (1972), a film that has garnered such praise since it first appeared in theaters that it hardly seems necessary to rehearse its countless and well-deserved accolades.  It is undoubtedly one of those few cinematic works of art that film historians, critics, and the public universally recognize as among the greatest films of all time.  What is perhaps most extraordinary is that The Godfather, Part II (1974) somehow managed to attain the same breathtaking pinnacle of aesthetic perfection when sequels are notoriously inferior to their predecessors.

Bruce Willis Retires from Acting Due to Brain Condition

I'm a huge Bruce Willis fan. I've seen all his movies. Even the direct-to-DVD schlock he's been making in recent years. The last time Bruce did any real acting was in 2019's "Motherless Brooklyn." His last good starring role was 2017's "Once Upon A Time in Venice." Still, I can't resist watching a movie he's in. I've seen all 8 direct-to-DVD films he made in 2021 and I could tell something was wrong in the delivery of his lines. A sad ending to a stellar career.

Oscars 2022 be like

Production Hell - Justice League

Oscars: Ugly gowns, old faces, and bad behavior

Oscars: Ugly gowns, old faces, and bad behavior: Remember Cary Grant? Spencer Tracy? Fred Astaire? Clark Gable? Gene Tierney? Grace Kelly? Olivia de Havilland? Audrey Hepburn? Hollywood and its Academy Awards ceremonies were once was amazingly elegant. Now, with the Oscars showing us Will Smith walking up on stage to punch announcer Chris Rock for making fun of his wife's bald head, they've become kind of wretched. The Oscars this year showed just how far the movie idols and their Hollywood juggernaut have fallen.
