'American Sniper' tops $300M at box-office
OK,
so 'Fifty Shads of Grey' dominated the Valentine's Day weekend at the
box-office, but 'American Sniper' continues to do well at the domestic
box-office. With a $16.4 million haul over the Feb. 13-15 weekend,
'American Sniper' has now earned $304 million in the U.S.
The Clint Eastwood-directed tribute to Chris Kyle has also earned $85.7 million overseas, making it one of the most successful movies ever. It's already among the Top 50 highest-grossing films of all time and No. 3 of all films released in the past year. It also set the record for the biggest January opening of all time.
And next weekend is the Oscars, with 'American Sniper' nominated for 6 Academy Awards.

'SpongeBob' knocks 'American Sniper' from No. 1 at box-office
After three weeks at No. 1, "American Sniper" dropped to No. 2 in the
domestic box-office this weekend, knocked from the top perch by ...
SpongeBob SquarePants? Yes, "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water"
was the No. 1 film in America this weekend, earning an estimated $56
million. "American Sniper" earned another $24.1 million - good for No. 2
- and brought its total gross to $282.2 million.
The other big news at the box-office is the titanic failure of sci-fi epic "Jupiter Ascending," which could only muster $19 million in its opening weekend. The film cost Warner Bros. $176 million to produce and will go down in history as one of the biggest flops of all time. It's a good thing "American Sniper" is also a Warner Bros. film or studio executives would be jumping out of windows tonight.
